CURRICULUM VITAE
Alexey Lebedev is one of the most promising pianists of this generation. In 2009 he won second prize at the legendary Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition in Bolzano, Italy; considered to be one of the most demanding competitions for young performers. Past winners include Martha Argerich, Garrick Ohlsson and Lilya Zilberstein. At the same competition, Lebedev received the special prize for best interpretation of contemporary piano music.
Lebedev was born in St. Petersburg in 1980. He graduated summa cum laude from the St. Petersburg State Conservatory studying with Professors Tatiana Kravchenko and Tatiana Zagorovskaya. In 2004 he began studying at the Hochschule für Musik and Theater Hanover with Professors Einar Steen-Nökleberg, Matti Raekallio and Mi-Kyung Kim. He has attended master classes by Leon Fleisher, William Grant Nabore, Joaquin Soriano, Xu Zhong, John O'Conor, and Tamas Ungar.
Alexey Lebedev has been a regular winner of piano competitions since the age of twelve when he won his first in St. Petersburg. Since then he has won both national and international competitions including 12 first prizes at competitions in Spain, Italy, France, Portugal and Germany.
At the age of 14 Lebedev made his orchestral debut playing Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto. He regularly plays as a soloist in numerous recitals, orchestra concerts and as a chamber musician with the Duo Arte Mozart. Alexey Lebedev has been invited to perform at many international music festivals, including "Virtuosi of the Twentieth Century" in St. Petersburg, the International Piano Festival in Merignac (Bordeaux), the "Klassik in der Altstadt" Festival in Hanover, the Wennigsen Music Festival, the Maratea Festival and the Perugia Festival in Italy. In 2006 he was awarded the Richard Wagner's Scholarship in Bayreuth.
