CURRICULUM  VITAE

 

         

       

       With numerous awards and top prizes, including the legendary Feruccio Busoni International Piano Competition in Bolzano, the Maria Canals International piano Competition in Barcelona, the Jose Iturbi International Piano Competition in Valencia, Alexey Lebedev belongs to the elite of the young generation at the piano. In 2011 he won first prize at the 62nd Gian Battista Viotti International Piano Competition in Vercelli, Italy; considered to be one of the most demanding competitions for young performers. 

      

       Lebedev was born in St. Petersburg in 1980. He graduated summa cum laude from the St. Petersburg State Conservatory studying with Professors Tatiana Kravchenko and Tatiana Zagorovskaya. In 2004 he began studying at the Hochschule für Musik and Theater Hanover with Professors Mi-Kyung Kim, Matti Raekallio and Einar Steen-Nökleberg. He has attended master classes by Alfred Brendel, Leon Fleisher, Dmitry Bashkirov, William Grant Nabore, Joaquin Soriano, Xu Zhong, John O'Conor, and Tamas Ungar.

      

       Alexey Lebedev has been a regular winner of piano competitions since the age of twelve when he won his first in St. Petersburg. Since then he has won both national and international competitions including 15 first prizes at competitions in Spain, Italy, France, Portugal and Germany.

      

       At the age of 14 Lebedev made his orchestral debut. He regularly plays as a soloist in numerous recitals, orchestra concerts and as a chamber musician with the Duo Arte Mozart. Alexey Lebedev has been invited to perform at many international music festivals, including the Busoni Festival in Bolzano, the Dinard Music Festival, the Peralada Festival in Girona, thr Liszt & Friends Music Festival in Rome, the MASiMAS Festival in Barcelona, the Loumarin Music Festival, "Virtuosi of the Twentieth Century" in St. Petersburg, the International Piano Festival in Merignac (Bordeaux), the "Klassik in der Altstadt" Festival in Hanover and the Wennigsen Music Festival. In 2006 he was awarded the Richard Wagner's Scholarship in Bayreuth.

                 

     From 2009 Alexey Lebedev is Docent at the Piano Department of Musikhochschule Hannover, Germany.
